Celebrity Fashion Experience ups the ante for the Dallas fashion scene - Examiner

Everything is bigger in Texas; even with fashion. The Celebrity Fashion Experience event was held at Lofty Space on April 26, 2012 and the turnout was that only fit for fashion's finest. With VH1's "Football Wives" reality star Dawn Neufeld as the host and celebrity appearances by the stars of Style Network's "Big Rich Texas", the fashion show benefiting Autism Speaks was already destined for success.

The double runway paved the way for models that were fresh off of their stints at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and one in particular from America's Next Top Model. With all of the stars, glitz and glamour, one would believe that they were on the Hollywood scene in Los Angeles but this was even better. This event was big, unforgettable and everything that Dallas is and should be known for in the fashion realm.

Project Runway's Laura Kathleen kicked off the show with a spectacular presentation of long and short jackets with asymmetrical details, skirts with lace details on the hip, and splashes of colors and designs that mirrored paint hitting a canvas. To best describe Laura Kathleen's 2012 Fall and Winter collection, it was an invigorating collision of art and fashion. As the audience was left craving for more, Kathleen hinted that the Spring 2013 collection will introduce "razor-cut leather."

Key's designer Karen Michelle turned up the heat with the soft launch of her resort and swimwear collection. From sparkly bandeau bikini tops to animal print monokinis, Michelle gave the audience a well-deserved trip to Miami; a city that she gives credit for the overall vision of her swimwear line.

Emerging designers Angelica Sandoval and Nayra Guerrero wowed the audience with the versatility of their collections but the overall showstoppers were the last designers to present, Horacio Nieto and Linda Rowe Thomas.

Horacio Nieto's collection was Parisian-inspired featuring plaid double-breasted overcoats for men and cowl-necked sheath and A-lined dresses for women. Nieto shocked the crowd with two evening gowns that were more than just red-carpet worthy; they were living pieces of art gracefully making their way down the runway. It was definitely more than what guests had bargained for.

Rounding off the evening was Linda Rowe Thomas and her Romas label that paid tribute in a modernized fashion to the late style icon and trendsetter, Jacqueline Onassis. As Thomas eloquently stated, her collection "revamped the little black dress" but definitely with a twist. Thomas infused decorative floral designs with both short dresses and long evening gowns. Tasteful but sexy key-holes were featured at the top of some designs while other designs delicately accentuated a woman's best assets. All in all, the level of detail for Thomas' collection was phenomenal at best and completely fit for those with luxurious tastes.

So who says Dallas isn't fashionable? After an evening like the Celebrity Fashion Experience, one can only wonder what Dallas has up its sleeve next. With fashion's best presenting at an event such as this, Dallas is on its way to claiming the "Most Fashionable City" title in no time.
