The 138th Kentucky Derby is being run on Saturday, May 5, 2012, and NBC Sports and other NBC Universal properties are providing coverage of the race and of the fun, fashion and food for which the race is famous. Â There will be coverage on Today Show segments and on CNBC, Bravo, E!, Style, iVillage and Daily Candy, according to an announcement from NBC Television Network on May 2, 2012.Â
NBC Sports started coverage on Wednesday, May 2, and the coverage of the Run for the Roses will continue through race day. The 138th Kentucky Derby will be televised on NBC Television Network on Saturday, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. ET. Â Kentucky Derby and special coverage on NBC Sports
NBC Universal properties will promote the food, fashion, celebrity and entertainment that surrounds the spectacle that is the Kentucky Derby. Following are the special segments that will bring the spirit of the Kentucky Derby to television screens across America.Â
Jenna Wolfe of "Today" will report live from Churchill Downs on Friday, May 3, and will continue coverage over the weekend. On Saturday's Weekend "Today" she will interview NBC's on-horse reporter Donna Brothers, while they are both on horseback. "Today" coverage from Churchill Down continues on Sunday, with an interview with the Derby-winning jockey and trainer. Wolfe will also contribute features during NBC's Kentucky Derby coverage.Â
"Today's" Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb hosted a Kentucky Derby giveaway contest for the fan who created the most interesting Derby hat. This was the third year in a row that they hosted the giveaway. Daily Candy's Lilliana Vasquez will be a guest on Friday for a Kentucky Derby "who knew" segment.Â
CNBC's sports-business reporter, Darren Rovell, will report live from Churchill Downs all day on Friday. Rovell will also be a part of the Kentucky Derby coverage on NBC Sports Network.Â
Chef Cat Cora, co-host of Bravo's new show, "Around the World in 80 Plates," will participate in "Taste of the Derby" on Friday.Â
On Saturday, the celebrities will be in attendance and E! News host Catt Sadler will be on hand to interview them. Sadler will interview Mary J. Blige, who will sing the National Anthem on Saturday. Sadler will also present a hat shopping segment.Â
Fashion news will be covered by Jeannie Mai, host of "How Do I Look." Mai will be on-site and breaking down the day's fashion and Kentucky Derby style trends. This is the first time that NBC has included a fashion correspondent in its on-air coverage of the Derby.Â
Bob Costas, NBC's Kentucky Derby host, will interview Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning during Saturday's coverage of the Derby. Manning will also be hosting "Saturday Night Live" on May 5. Manning will be live from Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center during his afternoon SNL rehearsal.
 iVillage,will celebrate this yearâs Kentucky Derby by featuring a contest to win a new wardrobe and accessories from Vineyard Vinesâ new Kentucky Derby collection.
