The Kentucky Derby certainly draws out the celebrities and some interesting fashions. This year, it takes place on May 5, so get ready to see chic frocks and elaborate hats. It's an event where many take fashion risks, and while a lot of celebs miss the mark, a handful take the reins and show the others how it's done. So which ladies have worn some of the best fashions in recent years at the Kentucky Derby?
Marisa Miller
The model always seems to know just what to wear to any event she attends. At the 2010 Kentucky Derby, she wore a short white strapless dress that had an embellished skirt and a bodice consisting of criss-crossing fabric. She finished off the look with a large white hat that had a pink ribbon around the base. In 2011, she wore a nude cocktail dress that had fabric draped across the bodice. The beauty accessorized with nude heels and a vintage style embellished hat.
Vanessa Minnillo
At the 2010 Kentucky Derby, the TV personality wore a short bright pink dress that had a cinched waist and a voluminous skirt. Nude heels and a huge straw hat with bright embellishments around the base completed the look. In 2011, she went chic and simple in a short black and dark blue frock that she accessorized with a matching hat, wide belt and black pumps. On her arm for the event was then-fiance, Nick Lachey.
Erin Andrews
She may have worn one of the most elaborate hats at the 2011 Kentucky Derby, but the fact that she pulled it off and looked fabulous was a feat in itself. The sports reporter wore a huge black and white hat, a black strapless top, a wide black belt and matching clutch and wide leg white trousers. Kudos to her for taking a fashion risk and making it work.
Ashlee Simpson
The singer/designer went retro at the 2010 Kentucky Derby by wearing an adorable knee-length red and white polka dot dress with red and white wedge heels, a white hat, white purse and a long string of pearls. It's certainly one of the best outfits worn by a celebrity to the event in recent memory. She arrived on the arm of her now ex-husband, Pete Wentz. The couple who started dating in 2006 and got married in 2008 filed for divorce in February 2011.
