What do your nails look like today? Are they neat and tidy with a simple clear polish? Or perhaps youâve got a vampy red to brighten up your outfit?
Well, darling, you are so last season. Nowadays, if your nails arenât decorated with glitter, jewels or matching your polka-dot outfit, you are nobody.
When Adele appeared at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, she wore a simple dress but a âLouboutin manicureâ â" which was silver and glittery on top, and âpeekabooâ red underneath, designed to match her red-soled Christian Louboutin shoes.

Nail art: Go glittery, be patriotic or use spots and stripes to jazz up your finger tips
Madonna, Lady Gaga and Rihanna are all fans of making their nails as inventive as their outfits and now, according to market research by Mintel, sales are predicted to rise by 35âper cent by 2015.

The popularity of Topshopâs nail art pens, gems and polishes have also gone up 65 per cent since last year.
And on the catwalk, designers are paying for attention to nails, too.
âWhen I started, it was rare that a nail artist got booked for a fashion show.
Now, theyâre as high-profile as some top hair and make-up artists,â says Andrea Fulerton, who does Nigella Lawsonâs manicures.
So, whatâs hot for summer? Max Factorâs nail expert Zarra Celik says florals are big news.
âPastel polish painted with dainty flowers is summery yet sophisticated,â she says.
Celik also expects patriotic painting to reach fever pitch in the run up to the Queenâs Jubliee celebrations in June.
