An Australian contestant on a fashion design show clashed with judges Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie when they tried to critique his work.
A promotional clip for Fashion Star shows the awkward stand-off which host Elle McPherson called "embarrassing".
Nicholas Bowes questioned Simpson and Richie's authority to pass judgement on men's fashion.
Simpson had told Bowes: "I wish I could have seen different hardware. You always kind of see zippers where they're not supposed to be…"
But Bowes didn't let her finish her sentence, instead interrupting: "I think it’s a very fashion forward piece and if you understood what was going right now, you'd probably understand that's what's going on right now in men's fashion."
As the crowd boos, Richie gives her two cents and says she was distracted by the strange styling.
But Bowes did not accept her critique either.
"Look, everyone's got their own opinion," he said. "I think John's advice from a guy's point of view was not bad but I think it's very hard to understand the girls giving advice about men's fashion."
A fuming Simpson told Bowes she was extremely offended while McPherson chastised him.
"I'm embarrassed. These two women have been in fashion for years and they have an opinion," McPherson said.
