Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational fashion show strikes emotion - Desert Sun

Under the long-term chairmanship of Nelda Linsk, the Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational luncheon and fashion show held at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino was again a success.

Linsk and Barbara Sinatra have jointly produced this event, benefiting the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center at Eisenhower Medical Center, for 24 years.

The first hour of the fashion show was devoted to shopping. The boutique vendors offered furs from Dicker and Dicker of Beverly Hills and jewelry by Natalie Baroni, plus a large silent auction of high-quality items.

At high noon, guests had to be pried away from their enthusiastic shopping spree to lunch in the Fantasy Showroom, where guests were entertained by beauty stylist William Squire, who reviewed make-up do's and don'ts.

Squire also demonstrated tips on how to stand, pose and walk onstage and recruited luncheon guest Patty Newman to demonstrate his points.

Despite all the delights of the pre-show, it was still the clothes that topped everything that came before. The style show was spectacular, with dresses and ball gowns by designer Ali Rahimi of Los Angeles. Many in the crowd were already aware that Rahimi, with business partner John Barle, has built the Ali Rahimi for Mon Atelier in Los Angeles into “the place to go for that special event gown.”

The colors of the fashion pieces on the runway were described by some as emotional â€" designed to delight, soothe or excite. The fabrics seemed to float on the models as they strutted to the music.

Sinatra expressed thanks to all for supporting the children's center, making special mention of the always present Hat Ladies table hosted by Sherri Auen and including Ognianna Masser, Joyce Bulifant, Rhonda Smith, Karen Miles, Ernie Rubin, Penny Mason, Jean Carrus and Ann Carter.

Others enjoying the festivities â€" with or without hats â€" were Helene Galen, Kay Hanson, Lisa Houston, Donna MacMillan, Stacy Shalhoub, Mary Roche, Mary Lynn Gladstein, Susan Stein, Susan Meredith, Esther Schoenfeld, Lola Green, Loni Bader-Argovitz and Gloria Tedesco.

Sponsors of the luncheon and style show, in addition to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, were Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and Brown Forman Jack Daniels.
